Drowning Pool in Concert

We had the incredible opportunity not only to see Alien Ant Farm in concert this year, but we also recently got to see Drowning Pool live!  And what an awesome concert it was!

The concert had originally been scheduled as part of KinserFest, but due to tropical storm warnings, KinserFest was postponed.  Fortunately, they decided to still hold the concert, just moved it to the ballroom in The Palms on Camp Hansen.  If you’re not familiar with Drowning Pool, they are a “alternative metal” band from Texas and are probably most famous for their song, “Bodies.”

The band was totally blown away by the crowd’s response throughout the entire evening.  This was the most crowd participation Brandon or I had ever seen, too.  Everyone was thrilled to have Drowning Pool there, most knew almost every song, and whenever the band would take a short breather in between songs (the humidity was getting to them) the crowd would start up the chant of “Drowning Pool!”

As this was an 18 and older concert (and the majority were single Marines), they were permitted to form a mosh pit during the show.  I got to stake out my absolute favorite spot for a rock concert – middle of the stage, second row back from the mosh pit.  Brandon was a bit surprised of my choice, but it’s the best vantage point I’ve found.  One person in front of me to block stray moshers, and the mosh pit itself gives enough clearance that I can have a good view of the stage.  Perfect for shorties like myself!

This was the most polite mosh pit either of us had ever encountered, too!  Any time someone fell, the entire group would stop, pick the guy up, slap him on the back a few times, and then throw him back into the fray.  The few times I did get bumped into, I got a quick, “Sorry, ma’am!”  Quite the surprise to me!

At one point, the lead singer actually came down off the stage and walked through the crowd.  He was surprisingly short (only a little taller than my 5’3” stature!)  You can see his silver microphone to the left of the hand in the center of the photo.  Once everyone realized where the lead singer had gone, everyone wanted a photo.  He’s in the center of all those hands, trust me; he walked right past us!

Although this was the band’s third lead singer, they still played 3 songs off their first album (the only album we knew), and the crowd knew every word.  I think this was a concert that was enjoyed by the band just as much as the crowd!

When Drowning Pool finally had to call it quits for the night, they did come out and play three songs for the encore, much to the crowd’s delight.  This was one of those concerts that everyone would have literally stayed all night at if the band had been permitted to continue playing.  So much fun!!!

Here’s us with our MCCS wristbands that got us into the concert.  We were so pumped from the concert experience we forgot to take a photo while there, so this is a photo from when we got home around 11:30pm that night.  (Like my new Batman earrings I got while my Mama and Lauren were here?  They’re big black circles with the Batman logo in gold glitter.  Quite the geeky fashion statement, if I may say so myself!)

Overall, we had an absolute blast at this concert!  So glad Brandon and I have overlapping music tastes and that we could enjoy our first metal concert together!  So much fun!
