In the beginning of October, (yes, I’m playing a bit of catch-up) we saw signs for this festival right down the street from our apartment.  Never ones to pass up Japanese festival food, we headed down in the evening to see what we could find.

Spam soba?  Che…wait a minute!  Much to Brandon’s disappointment, we found neither of his favorite festival foods, but I was happy to find soba.  I’m a big fan of pork belly soba, and just assumed that’s what was being served.  Imagine my surprise when we found slices of Spam as the meat in our soba!  (For the record, Brandon ate both of our Spam minus the first bite I tried.)  Brandon assures me that he’ll fry me up some Spam one of these days and I will enjoy it that way.  So far, I’ve not been impressed (or been able to get past the first bite) of any of the Spam I’ve tried.  Perhaps fried…everything tastes better fried, right?

And my favorite photo of the evening.  I love the lighted paper lanterns at festivals here!  Definitely adds to the atmosphere!  What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday night!
